Haridwar

Haridwar is a Hindu pilgrimage city. The word Haridwar is made up of two words, Hari means God and Dwar mean gate, which together means, The Gateway to God. Haridwar also serves as gateway for the Char Dhams namely, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamnotri. It is one of the seven holiest places for Hindus. The holy river Ganga enters the plains at Haridwar and devotees visit here from all over the country and overseas to take a dip in the holy river.

Harki Pauri or Brahm Kund is the place at which Ganga leaves mountains and enters the plains. Haridwar is also known for the famous Kumbh Mela which takes place once in 12 years. Haridwar has a large number of temples and religious places.

Apart from the religious places, Haridwar houses the Chilla wildlife sanctuary. It is the favorite spot for nature lovers and is situated at the bank of River Ganga. The best time to get see the flora and fauna of this place is November to June.
