Rann Mahotsav, in Kutch, Gujarat
The Great Rann of Kutch is a seasonal salt marsh located in the Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat, India and the Sindh province of Pakistan. The Rann of Kutch is the only place in India where flamingoes come to breed. There are 13 species of lark in the Rann of Kutch. It is also famous for the Indian Wild Ass sanctuary, home of the world's last population of Indian Wild Ass. The marshes are also a resting site for migratory birds, and are home to over 200 species of bird including the threatened Lesser Florican and Houbara Bustard. Every year the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat arranges the 'Kutch Festival' or the 'Rann festival'. This year it will be celebrated on 1st Nov 2016 to 20th Feb 2017.
During the festival Kutch is at its colourful and exotic best. Kutch, one of the most ecologically and ethnically diverse district of the state is a celebratory land of art, crafts, music, dance, people and nature. This annually organized festival offers tourists to attend folk dances and music concerts. This festival provides an exclusive opportunity to witness the creative ingenuity of the artisans and craftspeople. Nearly 32 cultural troupes from various districts of Gujarat participates in the Dance and Musical Carnival. Enjoy these cultural programmes performed in the midst of the White Salt Desert spread over miles.
